I really feel you on this one, Andrea! It's another of those darn yes, ands. Yes this, and also that. (And I so feel you on the yoga. I do it with a video now, to avoid my tendency to want to show others how stretchy I am. And even then I have to be careful not to try to impress myself. 😂)
Brilliant breakdown of how the urge to prove ourselves can mute the body's early warning signals. Once ran a presentaiton while nursing a sprained ankle because I figured "everyone's counting on me" but limped for weeks after. The real insight here is recognizing that expansion and limits coexist rather than compete.
Oohh... yes to all of this! So very human isn't it? And oh man, dating again... that is the hard stuff isn't it? And staying quiet enough to listen to our wise selves... so much goodness in this post. Thank you for your sharing, for your gifts to the world and your wise words.
My stomach sank the minute you said a teacher helped you go deeper into a twist. That teacher was probably proud to have helped you go further than expected. Just because we can do something doesn’t mean it serves us.
Unfortunately that instruction is outmoded and has been replaced with a gentler approach, if teachers continue their education. I tell my students to twist only 75% of their ability….and I rarely teach seated twists anyway because the inclination to torque the spine is very hard to resist. I hope you’re feeling better!

Ha! Tanya you are cracking me up. ;) So glad I'm not alone!

I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you Heidi!
